"Konnichiwa Japan": Lufthansa Cargo christens new B777F

The official naming ceremony for the new B777F aircraft with the registration D-ALFF was recently held at Narita Airport in Tokyo, Japan. In future, the Lufthansa Cargo freighter will bear the name "Konnichiwa Japan" ("Hello Japan"). The aircraft was christened by Peter Gerber, CEO of Lufthansa Cargo, Dr. Hans Carl von Werthern, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Japan, Yasuo Ishii, Administrator of Narita International Airport, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, East Japan Civil Aviation Bureau, Narita International Airport Office and Futoshi Osada, Senior Executive Vice President, Narita International Airport Corporation, in a joint ceremony.

In keeping with Japanese tradition, a sake barrel was opened and the aircraft was sprinkled with Japan's national drink. The name of the new aircraft, "Konnichiwa Japan", symbolizes the importance of Japan as one of the most important markets in global air freight traffic. Peter Gerber said: "The welcoming formula 'Konnichiwa Japan' stands for the close connection between Lufthansa Cargo and Japan. We are very proud to have been flying to the Land of the Rising Sun with our own cargo aircraft since 1969 and thus contributing to trade between these markets." The company has been serving customers in Japan since 1961 and has also had an airfreight joint venture with Japan's ANA Cargo since 2014.

The naming principle according to which new Lufthansa Cargo freighters are named is based on a creative competition once organized by Lufthansa Cargo. The central idea "Say hello around the world", which ultimately won the naming of the fleet, was chosen from more than 40,000 suggestions. The Boeing 777F, which was christened yesterday in Tokyo, is already the sixth B777F freighter to be named according to the naming concept.
