Planning of workplaces
Unitechnik enables virtual logistics planning
Unitechnik Systems GmbH plans workstations using virtual reality (VR). Already used in several reference projects, the technology is now an integral part of the planning of logistics projects. The aim is to optimally network the interface between people and technology as early as the planning process. The design of picking and packing stations via VR makes planning more vivid and increases acceptance among employees.
After planning the conveyor technology, storage systems and picking system, the next sensible step is to design the workstations. Particularly with regard to the ergonomic needs of the future user, early planning of the processes at the picking and packing stations brings a high level of added value. If source and target containers are arranged unfavorably, this puts a strain on the operator on a daily basis. This results in productivity losses, dissatisfaction and inefficient processes. Detailed planning of the workstations is therefore an aspect of the planning phase.
Workplaces in the VR model
The basis for the subsequent model of a virtual workplace is the 3D CAD drawing of the logistics center. This includes the exact dimensions of the building, warehouse, conveyor technology and other trades. This static 3D file is then post-processed in an animation program and then transferred to a game engine. This is software that makes it possible to program movements and interactions. As with modern computer games, the user controls the action using the controllers they hold in their hands. Using VR glasses, the future workplace users experience their work very realistically. For example, items can be removed from a bin and placed in an order container. Once the order has been picked, it is pushed onto the conveyor system. The order picker picks a new empty container and processes the next order. Users get a feel for movement sequences and picking heights via VR. Employees' change requests can be implemented and tested directly in the VR model. Even changes to the conveyor system layout can be implemented in the virtual space.
Planning with promise of realization
Unitechnik Systems GmbH has recently started taking on complete planning projects as a general contractor. Michael Huhn, sales manager and authorized signatory, explains the advantages this offers customers: "The greatest added value for customers is the elimination of the interface between planning and implementation. We take full responsibility - from planning the concept to implementing and programming the software systems, right through to commissioning the system. Throughout the entire process, the customer has a dedicated contact person who knows all the requirements in detail and keeps track of the progress of the project."
