Martin Schrüfer,

Short interview: Heinz Ennen, Swisslog

Even in times of coronavirus, logistics centers and the expectations placed on intralogistics in them are growing. Editor-in-chief Martin Schrüfer asked industry experts about the fundamental considerations that should be made before any new construction or expansion of a logistics center and wanted to know which products are helpful.

materialfluss: What is the most important thought that should first come to mind when planning a new warehouse?

Heinz Ennen: The central question is: should the new building replace an existing warehouse more or less one-to-one or should it be the basis for future company developments? In the first case, the framework conditions are relatively clear and a new logistics solution is easy to plan. In the second case, the challenge is greater. Here, solutions and systems with a high degree of flexibility are required that can adapt to volatile market and business developments again and again.

mfl: Which product, service, strategy or technology from your portfolio comes to mind first when you think of the word new build?

Ennen: I immediately think of our great expertise in initial planning and engineering in conjunction with our extensive product portfolio - especially in the areas of software and robotics. Against the backdrop of a wealth of experience in implementation that has grown over decades and is therefore very solid, we find a precisely targeted new construction solution for customers. A future-oriented approach is particularly important to us. With the aim of being a pioneer, we are constantly working on the further development of our technologies. One example of this is our fully automated robotics solution ACPaQ, which we are currently using in a new building at dm-drogerie markt. Any potential interested party can find out how well or efficiently our technologies work in practice by visiting our numerous reference customers. Whether in retail or industry, for pallets or small parts: there is something suitable for almost every requirement.
