Swisslog: AI-supported picking robot ItemPiQ
ItemPiQ is an automated picking robot for logistics environments from Swisslog that relies on the Kuka Agilus robot. The AI-supported picking robot has been nominated as materialfluss product of the year 2025 in category 1: Warehouse and picking technology.
The Kuka Agilus offers a reach of over 1,100 mm and is designed for various applications in intralogistics. The robot is equipped with a multifunctional gripper that can handle items weighing up to 1.5 kg. Depending on the product size and shape, the gripper uses different suction modes and mechanical gripping techniques, enabling it to reliably grip items with a surface area of 20 x 25 mm or more. ItemPiQ uses a 3D vision system with a 3D sensor for object recognition. A combination of sensor and software algorithm determines the gripping point of the items. The automatic detection of items reduces the learning curve and is particularly advantageous in warehouse environments with a large number of items.
The plug & play design enables ItemPiQ to be installed and calibrated quickly. The ItemPiQBox software supplied also includes a standardized interface for integration into common WMS.
