JYSK commissions Körber for mega project in Hungary
Körber, a provider of supply chain software and automation technologies, has been commissioned by the international retail group JYSK to equip a new, highly automated distribution center in Ecser near Budapest.
The new location will support the retailer of mattresses, furnishings and home accessories, particularly in expanding its logistics capacities in south-eastern Europe. At the new, automated site, JYSK relies on end-to-end solutions and Kӧrber's expertise.
More articles, distribution channels and growing customer requirements are contributing to increasing challenges in logistics. The European market and the systems that have long since reached their limits are being hit particularly precariously, as growing online trade continues to demand a high degree of adaptability.
"Today's supply chain requires harmony," says Dirk Hejnal, Chief Executive Officer at Kӧrber Supply Chain. "Technologies, equipment and people must interact to deliver on the fulfillment promise in the face of growing demands for convenience, choice and flexibility. Körber is uniquely positioned to provide powerful software and automation solutions from a single source and integrate them holistically into the IT ecosystem."
In the new distribution center, JYSK relies on a fully automated overall system. This includes solutions from the areas of supply chain software, automation, material transport systems and SAP software consulting and implementation. The core elements are two twelve-aisle high-bay warehouses, a two-kilometer-long electric floor conveyor with 36 RGVs (Rail Guided Vehicles) and 1.8 kilometers of pallet conveyor technology. There are also stretchers, lifters, storage and retrieval machines and a pallet inspection station.
Goods planning and control is handled centrally by the SAP EWM warehouse management system and SAP EWM MFS material flow system. There are also functionalities for transportation and yard processing.
The result is seamlessly interlinked functionalities for omnichannel processing, starting with pallet storage (capacities for over 200,000 pallets), through increased storage and retrieval speeds (400 euro pallets per hour), to transport savings of around 4.5 million kilometers every year.
