Fraunhofer IML launches "Logistics helps" initiative

"Logistics helps" - this is the motto under which the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML has launched the pinboard http://www.logistik-hilft.de. Companies that need or have available capacities, such as employees or storage space, can find each other there easily and free of charge. Private individuals can also offer their help.

While online stores or delivery services from supermarkets or restaurants, for example, are currently facing unexpected challenges, other companies are having to apply for short-time working or even cease operations completely. This frees up skilled workers and resources that other companies urgently need at the moment. In order to bring supply and demand together as quickly as possible, Fraunhofer IML has set up the "Logistics helps" pinboard. It enables an exchange of personnel and resources and thus supports the economy and the system-relevant logistics sectors in times of the corona crisis.

For example, companies can use the pinboard to indicate the period in which they need vehicles (e.g. forklifts or trucks), storage and processing space as well as transport capacities. They can also find suitable employees by selecting the areas of work, available weekly hours or qualifications such as driving license, language and PC skills. Private individuals or companies with free capacities offer these on the site and can thus be found by companies or other people. A map of Germany on the pinboard provides an overview of where the advertisers are located. You can also contact the companies and people directly. All further agreements are then made between the advertisers.

"Right now, logistics is in demand so that people can be supplied and system-relevant tasks can continue to be carried out. This means exchanging and using goods and resources as efficiently as possible - the core competence of our industry. If there is one thing we can do in logistics, it is react flexibly to the unexpected. With its network, the Fraunhofer IML wants to make a contribution to bringing together the available capacities where they are urgently needed. Let's help together to help," appeal Prof. Michael ten Hompel, Managing Director of the Fraunhofer IML and Detlef Spee, Head of the Intralogistics and IT Planning Department at the Fraunhofer IML, who launched the pinboard with his team.
