As a global technology leader in the field of agitating and mixing technology, the Ekato Group develops and produces agitators, complete systems and sealing systems for the process-oriented industry. This requires the stocking and handling of a large number of production and spare parts. Previously, all stocks were distributed across up to six different storage locations throughout the entire factory premises.

In September 2018, the company approached the intralogistics experts at SSI Schaefer with its requirements. The task was to consolidate the warehouse at one location in existing halls. The company also wanted to create additional storage capacity by consolidating storage and eliminating multiple stocks. "The centralization of the warehouse should increase the flow of goods through the entire company as well as the reliability and accessibility of the goods in the warehouse," says Dominik Beyland, VP Purchasing and Materials Management at Ekato.

The concept developed by SSI Schaefer together with the customer includes a storage area with a racking system comprising 2,100 storage locations for Euro pallets and pallets with special dimensions. The rack heights are adapted to the height of the existing hall of 7.20 meters. In future, small parts will be stored in eight storage lifts in a storage area of around 750 m². This storage and picking solution can handle different load weights and heights and, with its connection to the SAP system, provides Ekato with partial automation of small parts logistics.

"In several meetings with our contacts on the customer side, we have optimized the shelf planning in the racks as well as in the storage lifts, so that we have now developed a sustainable and coherent logistics concept together with Ekato, which ensures optimal use of space, short distances and efficient processes," emphasizes Sales Manager Matthias Weber from SSI Schaefer. The halls are currently being prepared for the installation of the storage lifts and pallet racks, which are due to be put into operation by the end of June 2019.
