Dematic automates at French building materials retailer

In response to the increasing demands of online retail, Dematic is automating storage and picking for French building materials retailer Chausson Matériaux. The intralogistics specialist is installing the AutoStore storage and goods-to-person picking system in the e-commerce warehouse in Lavaur near Toulouse.

35 robots, 26,000 containers
The system will have 26,000 stacked containers for storing building materials, with 35 robots moving on their surfaces. These will automatically pick the goods when orders are received. The small parts warehouse will enable online orders to be processed and dispatched more quickly in future. In addition, automatic picking should reduce the susceptibility to errors compared to manual handling. The new system will be launched next summer. "With the AutoStore system from Dematic, we have found a solution that is efficient and quickly scalable. This is invaluable for our growing e-commerce business," says Philippe Gaudron, Logistics and Transport Director at Chausson Matériaux.

Positioned for further growth
Thanks to its scalability, Chausson Matériaux is also equipped for further growth with the system. This means that additional robots and picking stations can be integrated during ongoing operations if the number of orders increases. Additional containers can also be added. The AutoStore system is controlled by the Dematic iQ software.
