TX Logistik launches new intermodal connection between Cologne and Bologna
TX Logistik is expanding its range of rail freight services to Italy. On 11 January 2021, the Mercitalia Group company, which specializes in Europe-wide transport services, will launch its first intermodal connection between Cologne and Bologna with five round trips per week.
"It is a connection between two economic regions that offers our customers a completely new destination in Italy and at the same time strengthens our activities on the Swiss corridor," says Gian Paolo Gotelli, CEO of TX Logistik. The route runs from the Cologne North terminal via the Gotthard axis to the Interporto Bologna terminal. Bologna's central location in the heart of Italy means that not only the Emilia Romagna region, but also seaports such as Ravenna or Ancona on the Adriatic or Livorno on the Tyrrhenian Sea, as well as all surrounding regions such as Tuscany and Marche, can be easily reached from there.
"Together with its subsidiaries TX Switzerland and TX Logistik Transalpine, TXL is taking over traction in Germany, Switzerland and Italy completely under its own management with its own train drivers and modern multi-system locomotives," adds Albert Bastius, COO of the company.
Up to 34 loading units fit on the train. Semi-trailers, mega-trailers, swap bodies and containers loaded with all kinds of goods are transported in both directions. The new rail product was triggered not least by the completion of the expansion of the Gotthard axis. Since the timetable change in December, semi-trailers with a height of four meters (P400), which are normally used in Europe, can now also be transported intermodally by rail through Switzerland.
