Logistics center
Green logistics facility for Mercedes-Benz
The largest photovoltaic system on an industrial building in Germany to date is the hallmark of the new "C3 Bremen" logistics center in the Freight Village of the Free Hanseatic City.
Sustainability was central to the planning and construction of C3 Bremen. In addition to a holistic energy concept for heating, hot water and ventilation, comprehensive building insulation and intelligent lighting control, the building's own energy generation capacity is a key factor. The largest contiguous rooftop photovoltaic system currently installed on an industrial property in Germany is being installed on the more than 80,000 square meter roof area. The solar service provider Re-Source will generate 8.4 million kilowatt hours of solar power per year with the system, which has a module output of almost 9.3 MWp. A total of around 23,000 PV modules and 52 inverters will be installed on the roof of the logistics property
"In many respects, the C3 Bremen logistics center can be seen as a blueprint for the construction and design of logistics properties of the future," explained Frank Dreeke, Chairman of the Board of Management of the BLG Logistics Group, at the opening on 2 May. "The project developer Baytree Logistics Properties and the logistics real estate consultant Logivest are setting a standard with this facility."
"Large-scale, holistic projects like this are exactly what we need to achieve our climate targets and lead Germany to greenhouse gas neutrality," praised Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection Robert Habeck.
The new C3 in Bremen bundles the logistics activities for the global Mercedes-Benz CKD production network in Germany. Vehicle parts are prepared for shipment worldwide via the major German seaports using the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) method. In this context, the overall concept of the C3 has clear advantages for BLG's long-standing customer. "Transport logistics is a key part of the automotive value chain. Avoiding and reducingCO2 emissions through process optimization is therefore a clear focus for Mercedes-Benz on the road toCO2 neutrality on the balance sheet," says Jörg Burzer, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group, Production and Supply Chain Management.
