First LNG filling station for trucks in Switzerland

Switzerland's first truck filling station for liquefied natural gas (LNG) was officially opened on June 28. The filling station is part of the "Goodbye Diesel - Hello LNG" project, with which Krummen Kerzers and Lidl aim to promote more sustainable logistics.

Ten LNG trucks in operation
Representatives from politics, business and administration were invited to the commissioning of the filling stations. The facility is located on the premises of the Lidl goods distribution center on Durantstrasse in Weinfelden in the canton of Thurgau. Ten LNG trucks from Krummen Kerzers are already in operation for Lidl.

East-West axis also supplied
Another LNG filling station was also opened in Sévaz to ensure the supply of liquefied natural gas on the important Swiss East-West axis.

"Despite market maturity and use in neighboring European countries, there is still no liquefied natural gas filling station infrastructure in Switzerland, as there is unfortunately a lack of political support for LNG here. Together with Lidl Switzerland, we want to remedy this situation," explains Peter Krummen, Managing Director of Krummen Kerzers AG.

Target 2030: All Swiss Lidl stores supplied fossil-free
Georg Kröll, CEO of Lidl Switzerland, expressed an ambitious goal for his company: "This infrastructure, which is now finally in place in Switzerland, will enable us to supply all our stores fossil-free by 2030."
