Save Food Initiative at the Interpack 2026
Clever approaches against food waste
At Interpack 2026, the Save Food Initiative and international partners will be showing how packaging systems can become more sustainable and reduce food waste. Expert talks, awards and practical examples will provide concrete inspiration.
The Save Food Initiative will be presenting a diverse program on sustainable packaging and food protection at Interpack 2026 on 12 May. The focus will be on the Expert Talks with two top-class panel discussions.
Goal: Reduction of food losses
In the forum "Global Packaging in Transition: Regulation, Partnerships and the Race for Sustainable Value", international organizations such as the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, the Food and Agriculture Organization, the World Packaging Organization, the Save Food Initiative and Messe Düsseldorf will discuss regulatory developments, international frameworks and cooperation for sustainable packaging systems. The aim is to combine sustainability and the reduction of food losses along the entire value chain.
The second forum "Turning Packaging into a Food Saver: Trends, Innovations, and Solutions Across the Food Supply Chain" will highlight practical solutions along the supply chain. Companies such as Multivac, Kühne+Nagel, the SIG Foundation and FSSC will present approaches to extending shelf life, stable cold chains and efficient logistics processes. The focus is on solutions that increase food safety and reduce losses.
Save Food Awards
Another highlight is the Save Food Design Awards, Sustainability Design Awards and the project competition. Over 100 submissions underline the importance of innovative packaging solutions. For the first time, selected projects will also receive financial support to promote their further development and international visibility.
In addition, the Save Food Highlight Route makes concrete solutions visible directly on the exhibition grounds. Exhibitors will present technologies and services for reducing food losses along the entire supply chain.
With its presence at Interpack 2026, the Save Food Initiative is once again positioning itself as a central platform for exchange between industry, politics and research - with a clear focus on practicable solutions and measurable effects in reducing food loss and waste.
