Flexible technology is becoming a must
For some time now, a topic group of the German Logistics Association, of which this magazine is also a member, has been discussing the image of logistics and intralogistics.

How can we increase the acceptance of logistics issues in society and among companies? This is one of the questions being discussed by experts and the usual suspects in the industry circle. One industry group has already come a long way in this respect: logistics service providers have long recognized that they need to actively address issues such as road safety (keyword: blind spots) and environmental friendliness on the part of road transport. And they are doing so with education and campaigns.
This sector has been looking at intralogistics just as seriously for some time now, as the USP is often to be found in the warehouse rather than on the truck's type plate. Interface management, software and flexible warehouse technologies have become the bread and butter of logistics service providers. This is also shown by the articles in the focus section of this issue: BLG Logistics discovers new possibilities in its own Digital Lab and Hellmann Worldwide Logistics will continue to play a decisive role in shaping the warehouse logistics of clothing company Hunkemöller in the future. Two exciting examples, more can be found in an overview article on the topic of contract logistics.
"The USP is often more likely to be found in the warehouse than on the truck's rating plate."
Nevertheless, intralogistics is not an easy discipline for logistics service providers: investment in warehouse technology must be extremely well considered as contract periods become shorter and shorter. The customer may be gone after five years, but the investment for the newly acquired logistics system is far from being recouped. Innovative yet flexible intralogistics is therefore a must. One of many examples of how suppliers and customers come together with materialfluss.
