Oraha's pride and joy

Martin Schrüfer,

High-tech storage system for efficient use of space

thyssenkrupp Materials Hungary has equipped a new warehouse for plastic sheets with a mobile racking system from OHRA. A total of three almost 50-meter-long transfer carriages were equipped with cantilever racks around 6.5 meters high.

The maximum load per chassis is 528 tons, which can be moved at a speed of up to 4 meters per minute. The storage system therefore not only allows quick and direct access to individual items, but also offers very high volume utilization. This enabled the company to use the space in the new warehouse considerably more efficiently and save on construction costs.

Instead of equipping a larger warehouse with fixed racking, thyssenkrupp Materials Hungary realized its new warehouse for plastic sheets with a mobile racking system from OHRA. This enabled the trading company for steel, light alloy, non-ferrous metal and plastic materials in Hungary to significantly increase its storage capacity.

Larger product range for new market requirements

Until now, thyssenkrupp Materials Hungary stored the plastic sheets, which are up to 13 meters long and 2,100 millimeters wide, on traditional cantilever racks anchored to the floor. In order to be able to reliably and quickly supply its approximately 4,000 partners with a significantly greater variety of products and to meet changing market requirements, the company decided to double its storage capacity. The construction of a new warehouse was unavoidable. However, in order to keep the volume of the new building and thus the construction costs as low as possible, thyssenkrupp Materials Hungary decided to equip the hall with a mobile racking system from OHRA.

50 meters of shelving on a carriage

It consists of three single-sided cantilever racks fixed to the floor and three double-sided racks mounted on carriages. By moving the trolleys to form a compact storage block, only one rack aisle is open at any one time for operation with a four-way forklift truck - this means that space is used to a very high degree. The mobile racks are each almost 50 meters long and 6.5 meters high. 2.1 meter long cantilever arms form five storage levels, each carrying a load of up to 800 kilograms. In total, each chassis is loaded with up to 528 tons. Despite this load, the transfer carriages move at a speed of around 4 meters per minute - so there is no need to wait long for the 4.59 meter wide service aisle to open.
