Storage- and racking systems

All confectionery in one place

Vidal Confectionery has built a new logistics center in Cieza, near Murcia (Spain), to completely unify its storage operations and product order preparation. Viastore Systems designed the automation of the storage system for the logistics center and entrusted AR Racking with the installation of all the built-in storage systems.

AR Racking has installed two different storage systems in the new logistics center in Murcia. The first is an automated system that uses robotized equipment to handle the loads. The self-supporting racks and a dedicated storage and retrieval unit enable double-deep storage. The four corridors with two double-deep storage units one behind the other have a height of 32 meters, a length of 164 meters and a width of 8.5 meters. The warehouse has a total of 16,448 storage locations.

Increased structural requirements: The warehouse is located in an earthquake-prone area.

Secondly, AR Racking has installed the MiniLoad automated storage system. This is ideal for storing light load units with low volumes and high rotation of the goods and is, according to the customer, "the optimal solution for Vidal Confectionery's products". The two single-depth corridors have a height of 9 meters, a length of 56.5 meters and a width of 32 meters. They provide a total of 3,328 storage spaces. The MiniLoad system reduces the number of aisles and makes optimum use of the available floor space. The response time is also reduced, while productivity increases.

Three questions for Laura Garrido, AR Racking

materialfluss: What were the challenges of the project?Laura Garrido: The warehouse was planned in an area with high seismic activity, so we had to pay close attention to the statics and structure. The warehouse that we built for Vidal using silo construction is a very large project for us, considering the 16,500 pallet spaces and 3,000 containers.

mfl: Why is the Vidal project a special one for AR Racking? Garrido: The project is further proof for the company that we are capable of handling larger projects. In particular, the special calculation of the statics and the cooperation with all those involved worked extremely well. Within three weeks, Vidal Golosinas received a turnkey solution that brings the company's logistics into the 4.0 age.

mfl: How is business going for AR Racking this year?Garrido: AR Racking has numerous projects currently underway in Argentina, USA, Chile, Portugal, France, England and Holland - all with individual requirements. These are good times for AR Racking: we have a strong international presence and the trust of very well-known and large companies worldwide. This gives us confidence for the future.

New storage systems open the door to 4.0

The automated storage systems and order preparation technology are advanced. The control software and management tools developed by Viastore represent a leap in quality and access to a Logistics 4.0 environment for the company. "We are very proud of the collaboration with AR Racking and the management of Vidal Confectionery. The collaboration has enabled us to provide a turnkey solution for the automation of a logistics center that will bring together different workshops in a 4.0 environment," emphasizes César Briones, Managing Director of Viastore Systems. Vidal is currently growing internationally and exports to more than 80 countries - a good reason for advanced logistics.
