Retrofit pallet racking automation with SSI Exyz C
A new, compact "C" module completes the family of SSI Exyz storage and retrieval machines from SSI Schaefer. SSI Exyz C automates processes in pallet racking in existing buildings up to 13.5 m high. No floor slab renovation or complex conversion measures are necessary - implementation during ongoing operations is also possible.
With the new standardized module "C" of the SSI Exyz family, SSI Schaefer enables fully automated pallet storage even with lower rack heights in existing buildings up to 13.5 m high. "In many discussions, our customers have made us aware of the need for such a solution. This important information and requirements were directly incorporated into the new development of the SSI Exyz C," explains Markus Sellen, Product Manager at SSI Schaefer. "The SSI Exyz C offers the same product and performance features that we are used to from the SSI Exyz family. The main difference lies in its compact and lightweight design."
SSI Schaefer introduced the SSI Exyz storage and retrieval machines (SRMs) to the market around ten years ago. Since then, they have proven their worth in applications around the world and have impressed with their energy, performance and cost efficiency. The standardized assemblies of the SSI Exyz SRM are manufactured on the basis of a common device platform. This design principle gives customers maximum flexibility and the shortest possible commissioning times. The series-produced SSI Exyz components can be designed according to the modular principle to meet customer-specific requirements, configured accordingly, pre-assembled and deployed at short notice.
To date, eleven SSI Exyz sizes and variants are available, which can be equipped with various load handling attachments (LAM) as single or double mast devices. While telescopic forks are used for single or double-deep storage of large load carriers, beverage pallets, for example, can also be stored multiple-deep in the storage channel using SSI Orbiter LHD load handling attachments. The SSI Exyz SRMs thus form the basis for intelligent automation solutions in standard and channel racking systems as well as in order picking or deep-freeze warehouses up to a height of 45 meters.
The SSI Exyz C as a compact class of the SSI Exyz family can now also be implemented in low existing buildings - even retrofitted. "With its compact, lightweight design, the SSI Exyz C enables efficient automation solutions for racking systems in buildings previously used as block storage," explains Sellen. "The solutions can be implemented without a new floor slab or other complex conversion measures. And even during ongoing operations." Nevertheless, pallet movements of up to 1,000 kg for double-deep storage or 1,250 kg for single-deep storage are possible. "The SSI Exyz C is in no way inferior to the other SRMs in the SSI Exyz family," says the product manager. "This makes the SSI Exyz C a suitable entry into process automation and the digitalization of existing systems." The compact series can also be used to implement new multi-storey systems.
To achieve the low lower approach dimension, the intralogistics specialist relies on a compact chassis design. The good upper approach dimensions are achieved by using toothed belts as the ideal load-bearing means. Consequently, lifting processes on the compact devices are not carried out using ropes, but instead with a simple deflection using just one guide roller at the upper and lower end of the mast via a circulating toothed belt. "Toothed belts in combination with a direct drive have proven to be the ideal load-bearing means for the compact design, they enable a service-friendly design and offer a solid, robust and durable solution," summarizes Product Manager Sellen. These technologies result in additional storage space capacity in low high-bay warehouses, regardless of whether they are new builds or existing buildings.
