Space for around 16 million items
Netherlands: Zalando chooses Knapp as partner for logistics center
Zalando has commissioned Knapp with the automation of a new logistics center in Bleiswijk, near Rotterdam. A combination of shuttle system and bag sorter technology is to ensure efficiency and flexibility in the new 140,000 square meter online shipping warehouse.
In the summer, Zalando began construction of its first Dutch logistics center in Bleiswijk near Rotterdam. The facility is due to go into operation in two years.
200 million euro investment
Zalando is investing around 200 million in the overall project. Of the company's current nine logistics locations, the new distribution center in Rotterdam will have the highest degree of automation. The logistics center near Rotterdam will supply customers in Western Europe, such as the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Spain and the UK, and will have space for around 16 million items, with several hundred thousand items leaving the warehouse every day on peak days. A combination of shuttle technology and Dürkopp pocket sorters will make this possible. "We have a long-standing close partnership with Zalando, in which we have achieved a great deal together with innovative solutions in three major pocket sorter projects. I am very pleased that we as the KNAPP Group can now contribute to the further development of our customer with an integrated overall concept", emphasizes Sigurd Völker, Managing Director Dürkopp Fördertechnik.
Fast delivery times thanks to modern technology
The pocket sorter system from Dürkopp efficiently combines different systems, such as the OSR Shuttle Evo, returns storage and manual processes in the warehouse. "The location in Rotterdam - especially with its modern technology - will enable us to accelerate delivery speeds to Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg," says Carl-Friedrich zu Knyphausen, Head of Logistic Development at Zalando.
Christoph Lafer, Vice President Retail Solutions Knapp, adds: "We are very proud that Zalando has opted for this future-oriented solution and thus extended the existing partnership with Dürkopp to the Knapp Group. As a system provider, we are the first point of contact from commissioning to implementation and service of the entire system, which is another advantage for Zalando."
