PTV Truck Navigator
Next generation of the truck navigation app
With PTV Truck Navigator G2, the PTV Group is launching the next generation of its navigation app for trucks. The app is based on the TomTom Navigation SDK (Mobile Software Developer Kit) and therefore contains up-to-date online maps, user-defined truck routes and is also available worldwide for the first time.
The navigator offers individual truck routing that takes into account truck attributes such as vehicle size and weight as well as truck-specific restrictions such as tunnels and environmental zones. The new mobile app retrieves the online map material directly from the TomTom server park.
PTV Truck Navigator G2 uses historical traffic patterns, live traffic data and artificial intelligence to calculate time-of-day routes and predict the development of traffic jams. This ensures that the truck always stays on the best and most economical route for the current traffic situation.
"The PTV Truck Navigator G2 based on the TomTom Navigation SDK is the success of our decade-long collaboration with PTV and offers truck drivers a safe and comfortable driving experience," says Mike Schoofs, Managing Director of TomTom Enterprise.
"A professional truck navigation app is the key to efficient transportation. By combining TomTom's highly accurate online maps with our technology and experience, we can offer an excellent and very accurate truck routing system that is tailored to the needs of our customers," says Christian U. Haas, CEO of the PTV Group.
The new generation supports drivers with a new look and feel. The user interface is even easier and more intuitive to use than before. Thanks to the new one-field search, points of interest (POIs) can be entered easily. The mobile app is available for Android and has an API for connecting to other apps.
Logistics companies can decide on a daily basis which devices the app should be used on. This makes it easy to roll out the Navigator to the entire fleet. If this grows, additional licenses can simply be added.
In addition to online navigation, the app will soon also offer offline maps that can be saved locally on the navigation device. Such hybrid maps reduce data consumption and ensure seamless navigation in remote areas with poor mobile data coverage. In addition, an SDK for integrating PTV Navigator G2 into third-party mobile solutions for Android and iOS is planned for 2023.
