New Warehouse Management System for the Mendritzki Group

The steel processing specialists at Mendritzki GmbH & Co. KG are restructuring the management of their raw, semi-finished and finished material warehouses. A uniform Warehouse Management System (WMS) solution for the sites in Plettenberg and Bochum, which is independent of the ERP system, is to enable the expansion of warehouse logistics processes, guide employees more effectively through the processes and optimize material flow management.

The intralogistics experts from Viastore provide support with their standard viadat WMS, which manages the warehouses, improves communication between them and controls all processes. The special feature of the project at Mendritzki: the entire logistics within the multi-stage production is organized via the warehouse management system. This includes the transportation of raw, intermediate and finished products between the machines and warehouses, the management of the input and output buffers at the plants and the intermediate warehouses as well as the control of the cranes, forklifts and transport vehicles.

viadat optimizes the entire warehouse and order processing management - for example through the use of adapted storage and retrieval strategies and dynamic storage location allocation - and offers the required standard interfaces to third-party systems such as ERP Dynamics NAV 2016 or MES MPDV Hydra 8.2. viadat enables Mendritzki to achieve a whole range of goals: Process speed and efficiency increase, potential sources of error are reduced, picking is optimized and products can be tracked more easily. This is made possible, among other things, by paperless processes, the introduction of a forklift guidance system and the use of mobile data collection devices (MDC).

Viastore is introducing its WMS in a multi-stage process in order to minimize disruption to ongoing operations at Mendritzki and to be able to react flexibly. The pilot phase in plant 3 in Bochum will be followed by the rollout in plants 1 and 2 in Plettenberg. The new logistics center to be built here in 2023 will also be connected to the WMS after completion.
