Elten optimizes logistics center with PSIwms
Elten GmbH, a manufacturer of safety and occupational footwear, has put the PSIwms warehouse management system into operation in its logistics center. The logistics software from PSI Logistics GmbH thus forms the basis for future process automation.
Elten has expanded its logistics center at its headquarters in Uedem on the Lower Rhine to increase the capacity of its central warehouse. The company relies on the PSIwms warehouse management system for efficient warehouse management and coordinated process control. With 6,700 storage locations in the pallet warehouse, 15,500 in the carton warehouse and 10,300 in the shelf warehouse, 10,000 different items are stored in the logistics center and an external warehouse. Around three million pairs of safety shoes leave the central warehouse every year.
Currently, the material flows have been reorganized and PSIwms has been implemented and put into operation as a process-guiding warehouse management system. The system manages the goods receipt of finished goods, semi-finished goods, merchandise and consumables both from in-house production and externally via the ramp areas. Picking is currently carried out manually according to the man-to-goods principle. For coordinated process sequences, a pick-by-voice system, a forklift positioning system and a shipping system are connected to PSIwms.
The warehouse expansion also provides the basis for future automation projects such as the installation of an automated small parts warehouse (AKL). Elten was founded in Uedem in 1910 and is now one of the leading manufacturers of high-quality safety and occupational footwear in Europe, employing around 370 people.
