Inform initiates Aachen specialist congress

In the last week of November 2018, representatives from almost 120 companies met in Aachen for the first Digital Transformation Day to test the practicality of digital transformation. The aim of the conference, initiated by software company Inform, was to provide a platform for the exchange of ideas on the topic of business intelligence.

Company representatives from the French lubricant manufacturer Motul, the injection technology specialist Woodward L'Orange and the vacuum cleaner manufacturer Vorwerk reported on their experiences with the topic of business intelligence.

"In recent years, the media has been full of reports about the need for Industry 4.0 and advancing digitalization. But even today, only a few company representatives are able to get to the heart of what these buzzwords actually mean. Many feel left to their own devices," says Jens Siebertz, Head of Inform BI. "So we came up with the idea of offering companies from various sectors a free format where they can exchange information about their current status, best practices, typical applications, problems and how to solve them."

The conclusion of the congress came down to three central points: Under the motto "Just start", it is important to take small steps to launch initial strategic projects and improve the framework conditions along the way. Secondly, it is not always necessary to develop software for every problem; combined data analysis also provides far-reaching insights. "AI meets BI", i.e. the combination of decision-intelligent algorithms and BI, is another important point on the way to successfully dealing with business intelligence.
