Project Smooth Ports
Port of Hamburg aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions
With the Smooth Ports project, Hamburg is aiming to further reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the port area.
Smooth Ports aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from port operations by actively involving all stakeholders in the goods flow chain, from administration, port operators and logistics companies.
Optimal processes for lower environmental impact
To this end, the differences between the various partner ports will be used to facilitate an exchange of strategies and practical tips. The main focus here is on developing optimal processes for the inspection and approval of goods and the associated traffic flows. The aim is to design these processes in such a way that they do not place an unnecessary burden on people and the environment.
Also in focus: IT in port logistics, alternative fuels
Another focus is on possible solutions for modern information and communication technology for port logistics, as well as on the use of alternative fuels in port traffic.
Represented by the Ministry of Economics, Transport and Innovation (BWVI), Hamburg has been the lead partner of the Smooth Ports project since August. The cross-border cooperation of the Interreg Europe projects is intended to strengthen economic, social and territorial cohesion within the EU. In addition to the Hanseatic City of Hamburg and Hafen Hamburg Marketing e.V., the administrations of the ports of Nantes Saint-Nazaire (FR), Livorno and Monfalcone (IT) and Varna (BG) are also on board.
