Hannover Messe 2023
The Indonesian President at the Hannover Messe
This year, Indonesia is the partner country of the Hannover Messe. The Indonesian President Joko Widodo has confirmed his personal participation in the world's most important industrial trade fair.
He will speak at the opening ceremony on April 16 and also take part in the traditional Chancellor's Tour on the Monday of the trade fair together with Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The last time the two heads of government met was at the G20 summit in Bali in November 2022.
In Bali, Indonesian President Joko Widodo and leading representatives of the International Partners Group (IPG) have launched a partnership for a just energy transition (Just Energy Transition Partnership, JETP). In addition to Germany, the IPG also includes the USA, Japan, Denmark, the European Union, France, the UK, Italy, Canada and Norway. With the help of this partnership, Indonesia will draw up an investment plan to achieve its ambitious climate targets. This makes the world's fourth most populous country a highly relevant buyer of energy and industrial technology and a potential customer for the exhibiting companies at Hannover Messe.
With economic growth of more than five percent, Indonesia is on the road to recovery after the pandemic. This is primarily due to high commodity prices. Coal, palm oil, nickel and rubber from Indonesia are achieving record prices on international markets in some cases. However, Indonesia's aim is to attract more labor-intensive manufacturing to the country. Following the liberalization of investment law and labour law, international investors can now operate more flexibly.
Indonesia will use its presence at the Hannover Messe to attract the attention of more business people from abroad. More than 150 Indonesian companies will be exhibiting at the world's leading trade fair for industry.
