Generational change in the BVL presidium
After 25 years of service to the BVL, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Wimmer has stepped down as Chairman of the Executive Board. His successor Kai Althoff (CEO 4flow SE) was newly elected to the BVL Executive Committee by the Executive Board together with Ilse Henne (Member of the Executive Board thyssenkrupp AG, CEO thyssenkrupp Materials Services) as Deputy Chairman.
In addition to Thomas Wimmer, Frank Dreeke (CEO of BLG Logistics Group), who is also leaving the BVL Executive Board at the end of the year, has also left the Executive Committee. Accounting officer Stephan Wohler (CEO Edeka Minden-Hannover) will ensure continuity on the board. With this change, the BVL once again has an honorary Chairman of the Board, while the full-time management in Bremen consists of Silke Fischer and Christoph Meyer. The BVL Executive Committee now once again comprises the tried and tested combination of three economic sectors: industry (Ilse Henne), retail (Stephan Wohler) and services and IT (Kai Althoff).
Kai Althoff is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of 4flow, a provider of logistics consulting, logistics software and 4PL services. Kai Althoff co-founded 4flow in 2000 and was responsible for the company's global operations as Chief Operating Officer (COO) until 2020. Kai Althoff: "It is a great honor to take over this position. BVL is the world's largest active network of logistics and supply chain professionals. The opportunities that arise from this represent a real competitive advantage in Germany. In order to make the best possible use of this, we must also develop BVL as quickly as our entire industry does. I would like to make an even greater contribution to this in the future."
Ilse Henne joined thyssenkrupp in 1999 and has since been CEO of several of the Group's international companies. She has been a member of the Executive Board and Chief Transformation Officer of thyssenkrupp Materials Services since 2019 and became a member of the Executive Board of thyssenkrupp AG in 2024. On June 7, 2024, Ilse Henne also assumed the role of CEO of thyssenkrupp Materials Services. Ilse Henne: "I am delighted to have been elected Deputy Chairwoman of the Executive Board. Thomas Wimmer and Frank Dreeke have significantly shaped and sustainably strengthened BVL with their work. We now want to build on this foundation and contribute to the further development of the logistics industry together."
Frank Dreeke: "The changes at the top of BVL are the beginning of a new era - and therefore great news. I am particularly pleased about the decision to appoint Ilse Henne as the first woman in the management team. I wish the entire management team all the best for the future success of BVL."
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Wimmer: "I would like to thank 'my' Executive Committee, Stephan Wohler and Frank Dreeke, my colleagues on the Board, the full-time staff in the office and all BVL members, whose great voluntary commitment supports this association. It was and is an honor for me to serve the BVL." Thomas Wimmer's official farewell will take place at the BVL Supply Chain CX in Berlin in October.
