Automation meets sustainability

The two family-owned companies SEW-Eurodrive and Hugo Beck are working together to improve sustainability. The aim is to reduce the energy consumption and therefore theCO2 footprint of a horizontal flow-wrapping machine.

The result is the Flowpack X packaging machine, fully equipped with automation technology and drive components from SEW-Eurodrive. The horizontal flow-wrapping machine shows that a sustainable approach to packaging technology also brings major economic benefits - and that it pays to rethink.

The intention of the project was to replace traditional pneumatics with state-of-the-art electromechanical drive technology - and thus save energy and costs. With the StarterSET 616 and the extensions, it was not only possible to replace the pneumatics of the horizontal flow-wrapping machine, but also to reduce the overall energy requirement by 23%. Maintenance costs and theCO2 footprint were also significantly reduced.
