100th anniversary of Sparck Technologies
On June 20, 2024, Sparck Technologies, provider of automated packaging solutions, celebrates its 100th anniversary.
Since its foundation in 1924 as HaDeWein the Netherlands, the company has undergone a remarkable development - from the mechanization of wooden shoe production to becoming a specialist in the development of state-of-the-art packaging systems for e-commerce. In the 1950s, the company increased office productivity with advanced mailroom solutions that could fold and stuff thousands of envelopes per hour. For 30 years, Sparck Technologies was part of Quadient (formerly Neopost).
Further innovations followed, such as the technology for its automated solution for custom-fit packaging in 2013, for which the company was awarded the German Packaging Award 2023 in the digitalization category last year. CVP Impack uses modern 3D scanning technology to produce 500 cartons per hour. The 3D scanner measures the rigid or flexible products precisely. This information is used to cut, fold, seal, glue and label a carton fully automatically and, if desired, apply customized branding. This reduces the packaging volume by up to 50 percent and carton consumption by 30 percent.
"We are very proud of the fact that our systems have already produced more than 220 million perfectly sized cartons worldwide. This shows the contribution Sparck Technologies is making to the international packaging industry," says Claus Weigel, International Senior Sales Manager for the DACH region at Sparck Technologies. The company, which has been based in Drachten, the Netherlands, since 1947, is thus serving an expanding global market for highly automated, sustainable packaging solutions in e-commerce: without wasting material, without shipping air and with minimal human involvement. Let's see what the next 100 years bring."
