Lekkerland has entrusted AR Racking, a full-service provider of industrial storage solutions, with equipping the two warehouses. AR Racking installed conventional pallet racking systems for both projects, taking earthquake zone 3 into account for the facility in Kerpen.

Lekkerland is a specialist for on-the-go consumption. The company operates around 51,300 points of sale across Germany and employs around 3,140 people. In the 2021 financial year, turnover amounted to around 8.2 billion euros. The company has been part of the Rewe Group since 2020. Lekkerland is reorganizing its logistics in Germany by 2030 to make it fit for the opportunities and challenges in out-of-home consumption today and tomorrow. As part of this, the specialist for warehouse solutions has supported AR Racking in the opening of two new warehouses in Germany.

Lekkerland sells food and other items to petrol stations, kiosks, retailers, fast-food restaurants and similar outlets. The two new warehouses in Kerpen and in Wedemark, north of Hanover on the A7 motorway, are intended to help the company meet customer requirements in the long term, for example the growing demand for fresh items such as salads and wraps.

Thanks to the storage systems designed, manufactured and installed by AR Racking - pallet racking is used - the warehouse in Wedemark has a capacity of 30,954 pallet positions, while the warehouse in Kerpen has 26,505 pallet positions. For the latter, the criteria for an earthquake zone 3 were also taken into account. The racks are designed for Euro pallets weighing up to 1,000 kg, which store chilled and non-chilled products, among other things. "We took Lekkerland's specific needs into account with comprehensive planning for the implementation of the project," explains Roland Fischer, Key Account Manager at AR Racking Germany, adding that "all requirements were implemented on time and to Lekkerland's satisfaction by the entire AR Germany team".

Picking areas

In some areas, frames with three uprights have also been installed, which are equipped with roller conveyors in front for order picking. The industrial racks installed by AR Racking reach a height of up to 10 meters in various rack configurations and have up to 6 levels. The aisles between the racks have a width of 3.5 meters.

According to Robert Kosmol, Manager Corporate Real Estate Development at Lekkerland, "we set ourselves the goal of investing in a highly versatile and adaptable infrastructure that would allow us to optimize the space without losing flexibility in order to increase our stock levels and improve inventory control in the picking area. The quality of the racking, the integral project management and the constant communication with AR Racking have given us added value in the installation of these two new warehouses".
