UPS started the expansion of a 160 million euro hub in Langenhagen near Hanover with a symbolic ground-breaking ceremony. In a two-phase expansion, the hub's sorting capacity is to be doubled to 30,000 parcels.

Once completed, the hub will serve as an important link in UPS's European and German network and offer companies improved access to the company's intelligent global logistics network.

The hub will cover an area of 24,000 square meters as soon as the second construction phase is completed in 2023. In the first construction phase, a new building will be erected next to the existing facility, which is scheduled for completion by summer 2021. In the second phase, the existing sorting and distribution center will then be demolished and a second building erected.

"Logistics one of the most important economic sectors in Lower Saxony"
The ceremony was attended by Lower Saxony's Minister of Economic Affairs, Dr. Bernd Althusmann, among others. Althusmann explained: "Logistics is one of the most important economic sectors and largest employers in Lower Saxony. Langenhagen and Hanover are located in the middle of Germany and in the heart of Europe - a potential from which the logistics sector can benefit like hardly any other location. The expansion of this UPS branch is therefore a commitment to the Hanover region as a business location and at the same time a door opener for the export activities of local companies."
