Bicycle campaign by Gebürder Weiss
Three times around the world for climate protection
Under the motto "Cycling around the World", the logistics company Gebrüder Weiss launched a cycling campaign on April 1 that is open to cyclists worldwide. A cycling app will be used to record and add up the kilometers cycled by all participants by the end of September.
The original goal was to cover a total distance of 40,075 kilometers during the campaign period - equivalent to the length of the equator. The campaign goal was achieved just 45 days after the start. The second circumnavigation of the globe was completed in mid-June. Gebrüder Weiss has therefore set a new target. The aim now is to circumnavigate the globe a third time, covering a total of 120,225 kilometers.
A reforestation project in Togo, West Africa, benefits from the riders' sporting ambition: for every 40 kilometers ridden, Gebrüder Weiss finances the planting of a tree in cooperation with its campaign partner natureOffice. The planting of 2,000 trees has already been completed, and the company's forest will have grown by 3,000 trees by the end of the triple circumnavigation.
"We are delighted with the great response to the cycling campaign. We firmly assumed that the participants would manage to cycle around the world together, but we never thought that this would be the case so quickly," says Frank Haas, Head of Corporate Brand Strategy & Communications at Gebrüder Weiss. "As a logistics company, we have great sympathy for people who set themselves sporting goals and make a difference under their own steam. The campaign also fits in with our sustainability strategy of promoting environmentally friendly mobility. Gebrüder Weiss has also been closely associated with cycling for many years and is involved in numerous cycling events as a logistics partner," says Haas, explaining the campaign idea.
Until the end of September, interested people inside and outside the company worldwide are invited to take part in "Cycling around the World". Participants can cycle six different distances - from 60 to 6,000 kilometers. Gebrüder Weiss is awarding prizes for each distance cycled.
