This means they can also be used in combined transport. They are also equipped with the RoofSafetyAirBag system, which prevents dangerous ice accidents.

"Sustainability in logistics is largely a question of the means of transportation. Combined transport offers great advantages here, as 80% of CO2 can be saved per tonne of cargo when transported by rail," says Christian Hammacher, COO of the Nosta Group. Another advantage of combined transport is the 44-ton regulation. According to this regulation, trucks used for pre-carriage and onward carriage are permitted a total weight of 44 tons - four tons more than vehicles used exclusively for road transport. In addition to the weight and transport volume advantage, the environment also benefits. This is because the larger volume of goods means that fewer journeys can be made, thus reducing CO2 emissions. Not least for these reasons, the logistics specialist based in Ladbergen has been continuously expanding this type of transport for years. With the purchase of the 30 new semi-trailers, 40 percent of the Nosta fleet can now be craned and can therefore be used in combined transport.

Another relevant factor for Nosta when deciding on the Schmitz Cargobull semi-trailers was the issue of safety. "The RoofSafetyAirBag prevents critical ice slab formation on the trailer roof," explains Hammacher. To do this, the roof tarpaulin is lifted by an air hose installed centrally underneath at the push of a button. The resulting bulge in the roof prevents water, snow and ice from sticking. At the same time, this prevents serious accidents at work, as drivers no longer have to climb onto the trailer to remove the roof loads.
