Fiege builds new logistics center in Hamminkeln

The Fiege Group begins construction work on a new logistics center in Hamminkeln in September. The property, which is scheduled for completion in autumn 2026, will have almost 55,000 square meters of logistics space.

Thanks to its immediate proximity to the federal highway 3, the new location is well connected in terms of transportation and fits into the existing Fiege logistics network on the Lower Rhine with locations in Emmerich and Bocholt. As part of the construction measures, a new park-and-ride parking lot will be built adjacent to the 95,000 square meter site on Isselburger Straße.

In the planning and development of the logistics center, for which Fiege Real Estate is responsible, the logistics service provider is focusing on the topic of sustainability. The five-storey, multi-tenant hall will feature mineral wool insulation and energy-efficient LED lighting. Sustainable heat pumps will take care of the heating. The energy for this will be generated in part by a PV system that will cover the entire roof and provide a total output of 6,500 kilowatt peak.

Thoralf Schuster, who heads the Real Estate business unit at Fiege together with Kai Alfermann and Nikolaus von Blomberg as Managing Director, says: "Using green electricity and producing it ourselves with the help of photovoltaics is a central pillar of our sustainability strategy. We are pursuing ambitious expansion targets so that we can turn our logistics centers into small, sustainable solar power plants and generate more renewable energy than we consume ourselves by 2030."

Automated building management systems and smart monitoring tools will ensure that the energy consumption of the new Fiege logistics center in Hamminkeln is optimized. For the building, the Greven-based family business is aiming for the EG-40 standard as well as gold certification (version 2023) from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).
