New Gigaliner: Güttler upgrades for general cargo transportation

Güttler Logistik GmbH is expanding its Gigaliner fleet: In addition to the three long trucks already in operation, the freight forwarder is putting another 21-metre-long train combination consisting of a machine wagon with a fixed body and through-loading tandem trailer into operation.

It will replace an existing type 3 Gigaliner, which is used elsewhere for lower payload requirements. With the new acquisition, the Franconian freight forwarder is responding to the increased demand for general cargo transportation. The gigaliners also have a positive effect on the logistics specialist's CO2 balance.

"The general cargo segment has increased significantly in recent months due to the coronavirus pandemic and the associated difficulties for private individuals to shop, and is likely to remain at a high level even after the opening of the stationary retail trade. In order to be able to handle these increased transport volumes in the usual quality, we have now put another Gigaliner into operation for our hub transports," says Johannes Reuther, Managing Partner of Güttler Logistik GmbH.

At the same time, the company is pursuing its green logistics strategy with the new acquisition. "With the new Gigaliner, we are saving at least 30 percent of our previous CO2 emissions per trip at full capacity," explains Reuther. Thanks to its overall concept, which has been reduced by the dolly and one axle, the unladen weight of the new Gigaliner has been reduced from 24 to 17.5 tons compared to its predecessor. This gives it an additional 6.5 tons of payload. "This is of immense importance, especially in the general cargo sector," continues Reuther. In addition, the towing concept, which has been reduced by one axle, optimizes fuel consumption by around 1.5 liters.

Thanks to the option of double-decker loading, the freight forwarder is more flexible in loading and load securing is simpler than before. An innovative through-loading device also ensures that the Gigaliners' trailer does not have to be separated and manoeuvred, which, according to Reuther, significantly optimizes the ramp situation and the time required there: "Calculated over a driver's working day, this adds up to 30 minutes." Güttler will use the new long truck to cover traffic between the company headquarters in Hof (Saale) and the hub of the general cargo cooperation ONLINE Systemlogistik.
