Kühne Foundation initiates "Kühne Center for Sustainable Globalization"

The non-profit Kühne Foundation is expanding its funding areas of logistics, medicine and culture to include a new funding focus. The establishment of the "Kühne Center for Sustainable Globalization" at the Institute of Economics at the University of Zurich goes hand in hand with the funding of a "Professorship for International Trade".

Reliable information on globalization
The aim is to provide decision-makers and the public with scientifically sound information on the workings and effects of globalization and to present answers to the current challenges of world trade. "With its research, the University of Zurich wants to make a contribution to the discussion on the important issues of our time," says Prof. Dr. Michael Hengartner, Rector of the University of Zurich, explaining the collaboration. "Globalization shapes our everyday lives in many different ways. Thanks to this cooperation, we can further expand the research area of international trade at the Institute of Economics and provide a basis for the political and social discussion on future models of world trade." Prof. Dr. h.c. Klaus-Michael Kühne, President of the Board of Trustees of the Kühne Foundation, said: "As a logistics entrepreneur and benefactor, I have always been convinced that the entire global economy benefits significantly from globalization. However, in view of the increasing shift away from free trade, there is a need for information and action."
