The award was presented by Karin Schrader, first mayor of the city of Bielefeld, and the Bielefeld Alliance for Families during a festive ceremony. In addition to structural personnel policy approaches, the use of creative instruments of a modern, family-oriented personnel policy and the implementation of individual company-specific solutions were also assessed. Hellmann impressed with its flexible working hours and numerous measures that enable parents and employees with dependents in need of care to combine family and career.

Hellmann was the first logistics service provider in Germany to be certified by the Work and Family Audit back in 2008 and has been continuously developing its family-friendly HR policy throughout Germany ever since. The measures implemented at the Bielefeld site include, for example, the establishment of a strategic health management system, life-phase-oriented personnel development and the availability of a parent-child office. An external social counseling service, which employees and their relatives can contact anonymously and free of charge, as well as the deployment of care guides also take account of demographic change and promote the family-friendly company policy. In addition, a company agreement was recently passed that provides for special leave days for caring for relatives. At the Bielefeld site, 144 of the almost 4,800 employees in Germany benefit from the comprehensive offers.

"As a family business, implementing a family-oriented HR policy is a matter close to our hearts. We have driven this issue forward with a great deal of commitment and energy in recent years and are delighted to have now been recognized for this at our Bielefeld site. Today, the compatibility of family and career is a very important criterion for employee satisfaction and therefore a central pillar of our Germany-wide personnel policy," says Loubna Gilani, Area Manager, Hellmann Worldwide Logistics.
