Hellmann becomes the sole shareholder of the joint venture Rhenus & Hellmann

The full-service provider Hellmann Worldwide Logistics has acquired all the shares in the joint venture Rhenus & Hellmann GmbH & Co. KG with retroactive effect from January 1, 2021. The acquisition of 50 percent of the joint venture shares in Rhenus Freight Logistics GmbH & Co. KG makes Hellmann the sole shareholder of the road and contract logistics company based in Großschirma, Zwickau and Leipzig.

Hellmann has been able to continuously expand its network of locations in eastern Germany over the past decades and, according to the company, is now one of the leading logistics service providers in the region. The acquisition of the joint venture shares will sustainably strengthen Hellmann's presence in the new federal states and further expand its market share, particularly in the road and contract logistics product areas.

"We have developed our joint venture very successfully together with Hellmann. In view of the fact that Rhenus Road Freight's strategic focus in Germany is on the Rhine/Ruhr and Rhine/Main regions and the metropolitan areas around Munich, Nuremberg and Stuttgart, we have decided to sell our shares in the eastern German joint venture to Hellmann," says Thilo Streck, Managing Director of Rhenus Freight Logistics. "Eastern Germany has traditionally been a very important market for us, where we have grown continuously in recent years and where we want to continue to strengthen our presence. Hellmann has established its network in eastern Germany with various sites over the past 30 years. As the sole shareholder of the location in Großschirma and the associated branches, we will have additional flexibility to drive forward the planned growth in the coming years," says Sven Eisfeld, Managing Director Germany, Hellmann Worldwide Logistics.
