"Gudrun Winner-Athens has made a significant contribution to the growing importance and internationalization of combined transport by rail and is a sought-after expert in road-rail combinations. By inducting her into the Logistics Hall of Fame, the international jury is recognizing her continuous commitment to more environmentally friendly freight transport," says Anita Würmser, Executive Jury Chairwoman of the Logistics Hall of Fame, explaining the decision of the expert jury, which includes 70 well-known personalities from business, science, politics and the media in 13 nations (including materialfluss and LT-manager).

Gudrun Winner-Athen's professional life is closely linked to the history of combined transport. In order to promote the shift from road to rail, the entrepreneur has been involved in the political arena for harmonized rail markets in the EU since the 1990s. She is fighting to improve the economic efficiency and attractiveness of the services offered in order to further expand national and international transport and to consolidate the importance of combined transport in the long term. Under its leadership, Kombiverkehr Deutsche Gesellschaft für kombinierten Güterverkehr mbH & Co. KG has developed into Europe's market leader in combined road-rail transport. Gudrun Winner-Athens will be officially inducted into the Logistics Hall of Fame at a gala reception on December 3 in Berlin.

Olaf Schabirosky becomes Traton Logistics Leader of the Year 2020

The Traton Logistics Leader of the Year Award will also be presented at the reception. It goes to Olaf Schabirosky, CEO of Hermes Germany. Born in Hamburg, he is being honoured as a "modernizer and change manager" who helped the parcel service provider achieve a 9.0 percent increase in Group revenue in the past financial year thanks to the consistent expansion of infrastructure and the last mile as well as innovative digitalization projects. The company, which is part of the Otto Group and has around 5,000 employees, also benefited from its measures during the lockdown phase in 2020. The logistics network did not fail at any time. Despite an increase in volume of around 40 percent in April, Hermes was able to guarantee consistently high delivery quality: more than 90 percent of all shipments were delivered the next day. And thanks to the digitalization offensive, a task force led by the 52-year-old manager was able to develop and implement a digital solution for contactless delivery within 48 hours.

With this award, the organization honours the pacesetters and future leaders in logistics. It honors entrepreneurs and managers from the transport and logistics industry who have been particularly successful for their companies or have set a trend-setting impulse. The focus is on topicality and the benefits for the company as well as innovative strength, sustainability and entrepreneurial change. The award is presented by the Logistics Hall of Fame and sponsored by Traton SE.
