Previously, the warehouse was operated by an external service provider for the department store. The joint venture between Fiege and Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof now enables Fiege to take over operational responsibility for logistics and tailor-made solutions for the department store's growing business. The Essen-Vogelheim location is the first logistics location to be transferred to Fiege and Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof, the other locations will follow from next year.

"Essen-Vogelheim as a major location with ideal transport connections is and remains very important for the department store and we are pleased that the proven and experienced employees will continue to be there for this important location," said Reinhard Haas, Head of Real Estate and Logistics Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof. All employees were taken on as part of the transfer of operations. The realignment of the branch and the integration of the e-commerce business gives the location good prospects: "In Essen-Vogelheim, a strong increase in personnel is required in the coming months. Together with the approximately 400 new jobs at our head office, we have created almost 1,000 new jobs in Essen that are subject to social security contributions," says Haas.
