DSV expands Dresden logistics site

Due to high customer demand, the transport and logistics service provider DSV is expanding its warehouse capacity in Dresden by around 1,800 square meters. With the new warehouse, the former Panalpina site is closing the gap in the region and offering new opportunities to local industries.

Managing Director Frank Sobotka, Managing Director Finance Nicolai Knudsen, Sea Freight Manager Marcus Musiol and Site Manager Kai Schwärig jointly opened the new logistics hall at DSV's Dresden site in a festive ceremony on October 1, 2020. Extensive utilization of the existing space made the expansion necessary. "We are receiving more and more customer inquiries from the region, which we can now meet thanks to the expansion. Especially in the north of Dresden, the existing warehouse space does not meet the actual demand. We want to close this gap and set ourselves apart from the competition," explains Kai Schwärig.

Before the expansion of the site, DSV Air & Sea Germany GmbH, which is based there, had 1,600 square meters of storage space, which was expanded to a total capacity of 3,400 square meters with the additional logistics hall. The site is equipped to forward urgent sea freight shipments immediately as air freight shipments or to pick and manage deliveries in its own high-bay warehouse. Switching between modes of transport is also possible thanks to the connection to the DSV Road network, so that all services are managed centrally.

Expansion of services
In addition to warehousing and picking goods, DSV in Dresden also handles traditional air and sea freight shipments as well as courier services. The merger of Panalpina and DSV at the beginning of the year enabled the location to expand its portfolio with additional services such as DSV XPress. The courier service offers a selection of express shipping methods.
