Pilot project
Deliveries to parked cars
With the chark project, the corporate start-up Lab1886 is making it possible to deliver online orders directly to parked cars. The pilot project has already been successfully tested in a beta phase in Stuttgart.
So far, over 1,000 parcels have been delivered in this way in the greater Stuttgart area. The service is now also being launched in Berlin. In the German capital, drivers of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and the V-Class from model year 2015 onwards can use the Mercedes me connect service to have their parcel deliveries or errands delivered directly to their parked vehicle. Orders can be placed in any online store worldwide. Later, it will also be possible to use this service for grocery shopping, returns and laundry and vehicle cleaning. Lab1886 works together with the last-mile logistics provider Liefery.
How chark works: The user temporarily hands over the vehicle's digital key to a previously booked service provider. The user can decide in which time window and at which parking location the service provider may open the vehicle. The vehicle can only be opened and closed once and cannot be moved. For delivery, the customer then enters the address of the chark Hub in the delivery address and the personal chark ID in the address supplement when ordering online.
