DB Schenker presents global space check
The coronavirus pandemic is increasing the demand for additional warehouse capacity worldwide. DB Schenker is responding to this need by introducing a global space check - a service to identify and evaluate available empty space in all 794 of its own contract logistics warehouses in more than 60 countries.
The change in customer behavior caused by the coronavirus pandemic has led to delivery backlogs in various regions around the world. At the same time, growing consumer demand for certain goods, for example in the food and healthcare sectors, has led to an increase in production. This has doubled the need for additional space. Items that are currently unsaleable need to be stored temporarily, and at the same time companies are stockpiling to avoid supply disruptions.
Xavier Garijo, Member of the Management Board for Contract Logistics at DB Schenker: "In the current situation, logistics is crucial for companies and therefore also for all of our daily lives. With our global network of contract logistics locations, we can offer the necessary flexibility in all key markets. Square meters that are normally used for specific customers, for example to cushion market fluctuations, are now being converted into temporary storage facilities - to support companies that urgently need additional capacity."
DB Schenker's new offering is designed to help companies that are urgently looking for free warehouse capacity and relevant value-added services during this critical phase. By implementing a digital platform, it is possible to update the quantity and characteristics of available space on a daily basis.
