Emission-free delivery zone: Dachser serves parts of Cologne city center with e-trucks
Logistics service provider Dachser has set up an emission-free delivery zone in Cologne city center. The company only uses battery-powered electric vehicles in this zone.
The emission-free delivery area Dachser Emission-Free Delivery stretches across the city center on the left bank of the Rhine in the ring within Innere Kanalstraße. All deliveries and collections of non-refrigerated goods are transported there emission-free.
"Important milestone in gaining experience with alternative drives"
Two FUSO eCanter electric trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 7.49 tons and space for eleven standard pallets, as well as a Renault Master E-Tech Electric with 3.5 tons and five pallet spaces are on the road for Dachser in the city without producing any greenhouse gases locally. The smaller Renault van is particularly suitable for the narrow streets in Cologne's old town. The three vehicles are charged with green electricity at the Dachser branch in Cologne-Gremberghoven.
"The launch of Dachser Emission-Free Delivery here in Cologne is an important milestone in gaining experience with alternative drive systems and preparing ourselves for possible entry bans for combustion engines," says Alexander Haak, General Manager European Logistics at the Dachser logistics center in Cologne. "The three zero-emission vehicles are clean and quiet on the sometimes narrow roads. Our customers really appreciate that."
Dachser Emission-Free Delivery covers 16 additional cities
In Cologne, a cargo bike for deliveries in the city center was already tested in 2019. The first two e-trucks started their first operations in 2022. With the third zero-emission vehicle, which was added this summer, Dachser has now been able to realize an inner-city delivery zone in Cologne in which battery-electric vehicles are used without exception.
Cologne is now one of 16 European cities in which Dachser has implemented its Dachser Emission-Free Delivery concept in everyday logistics operations. A further eight cities will have such an emission-free delivery zone for non-refrigerated general cargo by the end of 2025. In Germany, they already exist in Berlin, Dortmund, Freiburg, Hamburg, Munich and Stuttgart in addition to Cologne.
