With new radio card
Soredi's forklift terminals can now also handle IEEE 802.11r
The forklift terminals from Soredi touch systems GmbH, a member of the Datalogic Group, support fast roaming in wireless networks in accordance with the IEEE 802.11r standard thanks to a new wireless card.
The industrial-grade terminals with touch operation have also been equipped with a 12-48 volt power supply unit, which enables them to be used on both diesel and electric vehicles. The Blackline terminals with 10- and 12-inch panels can now also be operated under Android 7.1 in addition to Windows operating systems.
Powerful and secure wireless networks are an important foundation. This is why the mobile industrial computers in the SH series with resistive touch panel and screen diagonals of 10, 12 and 15 inches and Blackline with capacitive touch and a choice of 10, 12, 15 or 21 inch screen diagonals have been equipped with new wireless cards for the IEEE 802.11r WLAN standard.
The process, also standardized as Fast Basic Service Set Transition, stands for seamless transitions from one access point to another: When the end device reaches a new access point, the network sets up security and quality of service for it even before the actual roaming process. In this way, the handover can take place in less than 50 milliseconds. Among other things, this is the prerequisite for uninterrupted voice roaming that is imperceptible to the human ear.
The devices' integrated dual antenna supports radio standards with 2.4 and 5.0 gigahertz and increases the range and reception quality through staggered arrangement. WLAN and Bluetooth modules can be used simultaneously.
The industrial terminals in both series have also been equipped with new power supply units for 12 to 48 volt power supply. This means that each device can be used either on diesel vehicles with a 12-volt on-board power supply or industrial trucks, narrow-aisle forklifts and other vehicles with an electric drive and 48 volts. At the heart of the fanless architecture are dual and quad-core processor systems with generous RAM. The range of possible operating systems therefore extends from Windows 7 Professional and Embedded to Windows 10 IoT. The SH Blackline devices with capacitive touch panel and 10- to 12-inch screens can now also be used with Android 7.1.
