GS1 Germany honors companies
Lean and Green 1st Star for Henkel, Loxxess and Quick Service Logistics
As part of the Lean and Green initiative, GS1 Germany has once again recognized companies for reducingCO2 emissions. The Lean and Green initiative brings together supply chain players to optimize their owncarbon footprint in warehousing and logistics processes and share their know-how. Successfully implemented measures certified by TÜV Nord are honored. At the German Logistics Congress, organized by the German Logistics Association (BVL) in Berlin, GS1 Germany once again honored the sustainable commitment of companies - this time with a total of three "Lean and Green 1st Stars".
Lean and Green 1st Star for Henkel, Loxxess and Quick Service Logistics
All three award winners have succeeded in reducing theirCO2 emissions by at least 20 percent within five years, thus qualifying for the Lean and Green 1st Star. They use different measures to achieve this.
Henkel's site logistics was able to reduceCO2 emissions from transportation by more than 20 percent in just one year by implementing various measures at its Düsseldorf headquarters for supplying distribution warehouses. Double-decker trailers are used to maximize vehicle capacity utilization. This saves on return trips. A trailer pool concept developed with forwarding partners also ensures that empty runs are avoided and that return journeys from distribution warehouses are utilized as fully as possible. The company also uses LNG trucks as a bridging technology on the Düsseldorf - Bönen route.
Loxxess has already introduced various reduction measures in recent years. For example, the logistics company operates two photovoltaic systems and a combined heat and power plant. Since 2020, certified green electricity has been purchased at twelve out of 16 logistics locations. At the site in Bor in the Czech Republic, sustainable, resource-saving reusable transport containers are used for a well-known customer. Loxxess also decided to modernize the hall lighting at selected branches with modern LED lighting. The German sites in Aurach, Berlin, Bremen and Ebermannsdorf have already been successfully converted. This has reduced emissions and electricity consumption.
Quick Service Logistics reduced carbon dioxide emissions during goods flow processes. The logistics company replaced the trucks in its entire fleet with models with an improved emissions class and also gradually converted the lighting in its warehouses to LED lights. Furthermore, a much more environmentally friendly coolant with a lower emission factor is now used at the Dornstadt site.
