Bend, a scenic town in Oregon, USA, is a true mecca for lovers of retro caravans. It is home to Flyte Camp, a company that specializes in restoring gorgeous vintage caravans. The owners, Anna and Justin Scribner, have even become popular on American television. In order to manage multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring maximum safety and productivity, Flyte Camp uses Crown's Wave multi-purpose vehicle and the Crown C-5 Series LPG-powered counterbalance truck in its daily operations.

Turning passion into a profession

Anna and Justin Scribner founded Flyte Camp in 2010 and turned their passion into a profession. In their workshop in Bend, USA, they restore and renovate vintage caravans according to individual wishes and requirements. They now also produce their own caravans with a vintage look: the Flyte Camp Neutrons. The Scribners are also well-known on television: They film the TV series "Flippin' RVs" ("Old RVs in a New Shine") and a new series entitled "Beachin' RVs" for the popular channel Great American Country.

In the course of their restoration, vintage vehicles pass through various stages. As there are usually several projects in progress at the same time, space in the workshop is often in short supply. When repairing and converting the vehicles, it is often necessary to work at height for hours on end. However, climbing up and down scaffolding and ladders all day long with the necessary tools and equipment is very tiring and also poses a potential safety risk. Constantly moving scaffolding and ladders as work on the campers progresses also costs valuable production time and can result in damage to the collector's items.

At times, filming for the TV series makes work more difficult, as the presence of the film crew and their equipment means that space is even more limited. Employees must therefore be able to transport large, heavy caravans to the work stations without running the risk of damaging irreplaceable parts. The harsh winter weather in Oregon does the rest when it comes to moving the caravans from the storage area to the workshop. Maneuverability and precision are key to keeping multiple projects moving at the same time.

The Wave replaces scaffolding and ladders

By using the Wave multifunctional vehicle, the Flyte Camp team can concentrate fully on their work. The Wave enables safe and efficient maneuvering around the individual vehicles in the hall. The cumbersome handling of ladders and scaffolding is no longer necessary and the associated safety risks are significantly reduced. The Wave also maximizes productivity. It brings employees and their tools to the optimum position so that they can work at height without interruption. As unstable ladders and temporary work platforms are no longer used and there is no need to repeatedly climb up and down, there is less risk of injury and fatigue. "I can't imagine working here without the Wave. We use this vehicle in so many different areas. It is simply a fantastic tool. I would only change one thing about the Wave in the workshop - I would buy another one," says Flyte Camp boss Scribner. Thanks to the Wave's versatility, the camper to be renovated can be reached from all sides and operations at Flyte Camp run smoothly.

Moving unique caravans safely with the Crown C-5

The Scribners also had more productivity in tight spaces in mind when they opted for a Crown C-5 series truck. With its LPG industrial engine and Crown's servo braking system, the C-5 offers sufficient power and precision to move large caravans and mobile homes safely and accurately, even with minimal clearance.

Thanks to the power, precision and maneuverability of the C-5 series, operators can safely move oldies in tight areas where sometimes every centimeter counts. The full cab offers ergonomics and all-round visibility.

Anna Scribner is completely satisfied with the Crown counterbalance truck: "Everyone is delighted with the way the C-5 works and the way it looks. It is highly praised. I really don't know how we would manage without it." Restored or new vintage caravans from Flyte Camp are known for combining form and function. The Scribners believe the C-5 range gives the same impression, not only to staff but also to customers who come to the workshop to see how the work is progressing.
