Groundbreaking ceremony for new Jungheinrich plant
Jungheinrich starts construction work on its new plant in Chomutov, Czech Republic. On May 6, Sabine Neuß, Chief Technology Officer of Jungheinrich AG, together with representatives of the responsible construction development, local politics and business, heralded the start of construction work with a ground-breaking ceremony.
An energy-efficient andCO2-optimized new building for reach truck production is being built on an area of around 37,000 square metres. More than 350 new jobs will be created on site. Construction is being carried out together with real estate developer Panattoni using the built-to-suit methodand is scheduled for completion in spring 2023. The project budget is around 60 million euros.
From 2023, Jungheinrich will produce the current generation of its reach trucks, the ETV 216i from the POWERLiNE, in Chomutov. For the company, the new plant is a key building block for achieving growth targets as part of the 2025+ strategy and increasing its competitiveness in the long term.
Sabine Neuß, Chief Technology Officer of Jungheinrich AG: "With our new plant, we are expanding our capacities within our production network in Europe and ensuring at an early stage that we will be able to meet the continuing strong growth in demand for Jungheinrich material handling equipment in the future. We are building one of the world's most modern production facilities in Chomutov, which will take our production to the next level."
Modern technology is used for the entire factory equipment, from the workplace to the complex production plant: a new production control system is used. In addition to the use of green electricity, the installation of a heat pump is also planned and special thermal insulation in the office wing will ensure additional energy savings. Water consumption will be reduced through the use of a rainwater harvesting system. There are also plans for a 1.5-hectare green space with native trees and shrubs to promote local biodiversity. The aim is for the building to be certified to the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology (BREEAM) sustainability standard at "Excellent" level.
Completion is scheduled for spring 2023 and Jungheinrich plans to start production in mid-2023. As a traditional lignite mining region, Chomutov is currently undergoing structural change. The new Jungheinrich production site will create more than 350 jobs in the region.
