Witron optimizes supply chain for Plus Retail B.V.

The retail company Plus Retail B.V., a Dutch food retailer, is optimizing its dry goods supply chain. At the heart of the project is the construction of the new "National Distribution Center" at the Oss site, located in the middle of the country. In future, all store orders will be processed centrally from there using logistics systems that are networked with each other. The previously conventionally operated warehouse logistics will be completely automated. The contract for the planning and implementation was awarded to the Parkstein-based general contractor Witron Logistik + Informatik GmbH.

From November 2022, the 44,000m2 facility will supply 270 Plus stores nationwide with a dry product range of almost 12,000 different items. On a peak day, the fully or semi-automated Witron OPM (Order Picking Machinery) systems with 20 COM machines, DPS (Dynamic Picking System) at 12 workstations and CPS (Car Picking System) will pick and consolidate more than 410,000 retail units onto roll containers and into totes.

A mechanized pallet warehouse with 26,800 storage locations, a tray warehouse with 357,000 storage locations and a container warehouse with 27,500 storage locations are also integrated. Conveyor technology elements from Witron subsidiary FAS and the Witron Software Portal 4.0 ensure a physically and data-networked material flow.

The Dutch food retailer Plus Retail B.V., headquartered in Utrecht, generated sales of 2.61 billion euros in 2019 with 19,000 employees. Its market share in the Netherlands is 6.5%. The retail company sells its products through its own stores and via its online portal.
