Beumer Group supplies sorting technology for Royal Mail
The postal service provider Royal Mail has built a new parcel center in Warrington, England. The Beumer Group is supplying the highly automated sorting technology.
The parcel center is scheduled to go into operation at the beginning of 2022 and will cover an area the size of around four and a half soccer pitches. More than 800,000 parcels are to be sorted there every day.
Response to strong parcel demand
Royal Mail has commissioned the Beumer Group to plan and supply the complete sorting technology for its new super hub in Warrington. "We have seen a sharp increase in parcel demand in recent years," says Simon Barker, National Operations Director at Royal Mail. "The key to increasing parcel throughput times is highly automated sorting technology."
The Beumer solution will ensure smooth parcel processing at the new super hub in Warrington. The highly dynamic operation of the system enables, among other things, the automatic allocation of chutes. This improves the overall utilization of the floor space.
Thanks to the high degree of automation, the new parcel center will also be state-of-the-art in terms of ergonomics, eliminating physically strenuous activities. Most parcels arrive at the facility in roll containers. They are transferred to the conveyor system via automated tippers. After separation and sorting, they are transported in roll containers to the vehicles that deliver the parcels.
