Nine additional freighters - for 900 tons of roses

To meet the increased demand, Emirates SkyCargo upgraded for Valentine's Day this year. The air freight company offered nine additional full freighter flights to transport only flowers - this corresponds to a capacity of almost 900 tons of roses.

SkyCargo, the cargo division of Emirates, exported over 50,000 tons of flowers in 2018. Every year, millions of roses are given away in February for Valentine's Day. Countries such as Kenya and Ecuador, among others, supply a significant share to distribution centers such as the Dutch Aalsmeer market to meet the peak in demand. Emirates SkyCargo has developed a three-part solution portfolio - Emirates Fresh, Emirates Fresh Active and Emirates Fresh Breathe - for perishable air freight such as food or flowers. Emirates Fresh Breathe is a cold chain solution for freshly cut flowers. The Emirates cargo fleet comprises 270 aircraft, which transported almost 2.6 million tons of freight in 2018.
