Lufthansa Cargo and BMW on a joint mission
Munich/Frankfurt, 24.08.2018 - Munich, New York, San Francisco and Beijing - four destinations on three continents in five days. The BMW iNEXT is taking shape. The BMW Group is presenting the BMW Vision iNEXT World Flight in cooperation with Lufthansa Cargo in an unprecedented campaign.
In the most efficient cargo aircraft in its class - a Boeing 777F from the Lufthansa Cargo fleet - more than 300 international media representatives experience the vision of tomorrow's mobility for the first time: the BMW Vision iNEXT - the BMW Group's latest vision vehicle. In close cooperation between Lufthansa Cargo and the BMW Group team, this extraordinary vehicle and technology presentation went from idea to reality. In a specially conceived and designed, exclusive closed-room concept, guests experience the staging of the trend-setting vehicle and the future of the BMW Group.
More than 7.5 km of cable was laid for the technical expansion. 78,000 LEDs in 165 video LED modules as well as ten 13,000 ANSI lumen projectors in the interior of the Boeing ensure a show that appeals to all the senses. Over 120 stand construction specialists from Lufthansa Cargo and the BMW Group were involved in the realization of the project. In total, the engineers and specialists involved used around 30 tons of material to create the perfect stage for the BMW Vision iNEXT. The challenge lay not only in the realization of an extraordinary staging - the resulting concept also had to be "airworthy".
Extreme timing: the entire set-up in the interior of the 777F must be able to be moved safely and quickly from presentation mode to flight mode and back again. The first guests are expected eight hours after the aircraft lands - just four hours after the last presentation has been completed at the respective location, the Boeing takes off for the next destination.
"Visionary products deserve visionary presentations. We are delighted to be working with BMW to make this extraordinary world premiere possible," said Peter Gerber, Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of Lufthansa Cargo AG. "iNEXT is our offering for the mobility of the future. It is therefore only logical that the BMW Vision iNEXT should not be presented to the world public in the usual way. The World Flight is the first logical step in this direction," says Klaus Fröhlich, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Development. The exterior design of the aircraft is based on the interior design of the vehicle staging. Lufthansa Cargo's Boeing 777F will start its journey around the world at Munich Airport on September 9 with a corresponding special livery. After stops in New York, San Francisco and Beijing, it is expected to return to its home airport in Frankfurt on September 14. red/ms
