Transco launches e-fulfillment with AutoStore
In September 2021, logistics provider Transco will put an AutoStore into operation at the Gottmadingen logistics center, marking its entry into automated e-fulfillment. The fully automated warehouse is already largely fully booked before the launch.
Four online stores will have their goods packed and made ready for dispatch in Gottmadingen once the multi-million investment goes live. The items include men's shoes, electronic devices, household goods, cosmetics and sporting goods. The work in the warehouse is shared by ten robots and 30 employees. The system is designed for 15,000 picks per day, which are picked into around 4,000 parcels per day. The annual output is therefore around one million parcels. AutoStore distributor Element Logic, based in Bad Friedrichshall, was responsible for implementing the system.
According to the company, the new system is not only more efficient than manual picking, it also offers better working conditions thanks to the goods-to-person principle. In an eight-hour shift, human pickers often complete a half-marathon in the aisles of the logistics centers - day after day. For customers, the savings in working time result in long-term cost benefits. As a result, the work is not only less strenuous, the new jobs in the logistics center are also crisis-proof. David Bücheler, Head of Logistics at the Transco Group, assumes that the economic situation in e-commerce will continue and that Transco will be able to maintain the high capacity utilization in the warehouse in the long term: "Even before corona, online retail was growing strongly. All signs indicate that the parcel boom will continue after the pandemic."
